CadArts

  August 2007

Christchurch and District Arts Council (CADArts) was established in 1978 to promote participation in, and development of, the Arts amongst the inhabitants of Christchurch and the surrounding area. We are a co-ordinating body for the individuals and organisations (amateur and professional) in all fields of the Arts.

The CADArts’ Executive Committee (most of whom represent groups) is elected annually from amongst its members. The Mayor of Christchurch is President, and the Borough Council nominates two representatives to the committee.

We act as a means of liaison between members, the Local Authority and other arts organisations in the area. We can give guidance on many problems with the Arts. CADArts can usually provide the answer, or know someone who can, i.e. finding the right material, hanging an exhibition or finding a performer for an event. We have a formally adopted Constitution, and are a registered Charity

CADArts Arts Diary is produced twice a year and is widely distributed; listing the group events and contact numbers. Members also receive an updated list of ‘Members to Talk’ to detailing their work and how they can be contacted. This information is available to the public on request.

TACTILE TEXTILES 2008

January 2008

This Open exhibition for Textile Artists (individuals or groups) is aimed at the visually impaired and also children.  The idea behind the exhibition is to provide a stimulating and exciting experience by enabling visitors to touch the exhibits.  When we are working with textiles we are constantly handling them, but as soon as they are put into an exhibition “Please do not touch” signs are displayed.
